Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

You may have seen recent media reports stating that GPs can now prescribe weight-loss injections like Mounjaro.  Whilst this is true nationally, in our area (Suffolk and North East Essex), GPs are not commissioned to provide these medications directly for weight loss.

Instead, the local NHS has chosen a Communty Outreach service model, which will be run and managed by East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).  This community outreach service will be delivered from four new planned locations, which will open in a phased approach throughout the year.  Central Ipswich has been chosen to be one of the four new outreach locations.

Access is only available through the community service model.

Ivry Street Medical Practice cannot prescribe obesity management medications.

Furthermore, no GP in Suffolk and North East Essex can prescribe these medications; They can only be prescribed by the specialist service provider, ESNEFT.

It is important that patients are fully assessed for eligibility, safety and suitability, which means that obesity management medications will not be out right away.  ESNEFT will produce a list of 'priority patients'.  These are the patients that NHS England considers having the greatest clinical need, and therefore, only patients from this group will be prioritised for the first year"
